In terms of its anti-inflammatory properties, some even say turmeric may treat arthritis better than market pharmaceuticals.

This is significant since the side effects of pharmaceuticals can be so harsh, and a natural remedy is much more desirable if it works. Turmeric may also help manage diabetes, research suggests. Curcumin in turmeric is 400x more powerful than metformin which is a common drug that treats diabetes. This was discovered by a 2009 study published in the Biochemistry and Biophysical Research Communications journal. The goal of some diabetes drugs is to active enzyme AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase).

This study found that a compound made by fermenting curcumin (turmeric), called tetrahydrocurcumin, activated the AMPK as high as 100,000x more than the pharmaceutical diabetes drug! Besides these health benefits, turmeric is also potentially beneficial for treating certain cancers, obesity, and bowel disease as well as helping to manage pain and cholesterol levels. There is even evidence to suggest that turmeric has detoxification properties and is beneficial to the liver. As you can see, turmeric is quite healthy and is an excellent plant to include in your life!
