Some people claim that turmeric will stain your teeth because that’s just what it is, and some people use turmeric to whiten theirs! What?! Does Turmeric Stain Teeth | Teeth Stain Causes?
There are many, many reasons that teeth can get stained. Different foods and drinks, tobacco use, poor dental hygiene, disease, certain medications, genetics, and the list goes on. One of the reasons that stains become prominent is because of the strength of that tooth’s enamel. Now, there’s not a lot that can be done about the actual enamel on a tooth, but there are some things that can help. We’ll discuss those in the next section.
So, to get to a quick answer for ”Does Turmeric Stain Teeth?” we can imagine that it would. But, that’s if you have poor dental hygiene, or are prone to stained teeth. Some things just can’t be helped. If you start to notice your teeth changing colors while you’re using turmeric, we have a few whitening options for you. We don’t really think that turmeric will seriously stain your teeth.

Upon further researching, we’ve seen a lot of turmeric teeth whitening recipes. It’s a little counter intuitive to think of using something that can stain counter tops so easily on your teeth. But, it seems to work well. Of course, we haven’t had time to try it ourselves because we’ve been researching it. But, it does seem like something we’d give a shot. Most of the recipes we’ve seen have included coconut oil. The first one we saw also had baking soda, so we thought that would have been the whitening agent, but since then we’ve come across a lot that are solely turmeric and coconut oil.
We thought it would be nice to give you a little break down on some potentially teeth whitening recipes. We don’t want Turmeric Teeth Stain, but if it can whiten our teeth, we’re for it! So, we’ll give you two of the recipes we’ve found that sound like they really do work. We haven’t tried them, so we can’t say for sure they will. We can’t be sure, but we think that even if they don’t whiten, they probably won’t cause stains. So, here are some ideas for you:
- 1 Tbsp. coconut Oil
- Pinch of Turmeric
- Mix together
- Brush your teeth like you would regularly
- Let it sit on your teeth for 5 minutes
- Rinse & Shine!
- 1/8 tsp Organic Turmeric Powder
- Get your toothbrush wet and dip it in turmeric powder.
- Brush your teeth normally.
- Let it sit 3-5 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Follow with a second brushing using your regular toothpaste

So, Does Turmeric Stain Teeth? We guess it must not! We’ve done a lot of learning while researching for this article, but most everything we’ve seen has said that it is great for whitening! It’s perfectly normal for your teeth to get a little stained by some of the foods you eat, so keep that in mind if you start to notice something.
